ELIGIBILITY:


To be eligible to participate in the program, you must:

  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Be able to participate in the program for 15 weeks
    • 11 weeks of training, 2 days per week, 7 hours per day
    • 4 weeks of paid on-the-job training
  • A High School Diploma, or GED/HSE, is highly recommended. Some employers may require a High School Diploma GED/HSE.

PROGRAM STUDENT SUPPORT ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible to receive program student support to cover the fee of the courses and childcare while participating in the program, you must:

  • Meet program eligibility and be enrolled in the program
  • Be a resident of the Mid-Hudson Region of New York
  • Meet the EOP Economic Eligibility Guidelines Academic Years 2023-2024

In addition, the projected annual job openings over the decade are 5,410. Currently, workers in New York earn, on average, $38.37 - $64.53 an hour. What skills will I gain from participating in the Environmental Food Safety 15-Week Workforce Development training program?

The 15-week workforce development program will provide the knowledge. Skills, industry certificates and on-the-job training necessary to obtain an entry-level job or get promoted to a higher-level position in the food manufacturing and food safety industry.

What type of jobs will I be qualified for once I complete the training program?

Trainees will be qualified for entry level positions as a Occupational Health and Safety Specialists, Food safety Auditor, Quality Assurance Manager,Production Supervisor, Plant manager, Food Safety Compliance assistant, Quality Control technician.

Training & On-the-Job Training Environment

The training will be held in classrooms and labs. The on-the-job training will occur in local food manufacturing facility or processing plant.

Do I earn a certificate, and when will it expire?

A Certificate of Achievement recognized by Orange County FoodTEC will be issued to trainees who complete the program.

Trainees will also have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certificates from ServSafe and the National Restaurant Association the American, USDA compliance certificates from HAZCOM, HACCP and OSHA. The industry-recognized certificate expiration dates will vary.

In what languages is the training program available?

The training will be offered in English.

Are there qualifications to participate in the 15-week Workforce Development Training?

The training does not have prerequisites.  A High School Diploma or GED/HSE verification may be required by certain employers during the on-the-job training.

Course Objectives

FoodTEC offers low-cost on-site training in hospitality, tourism, restaurant management, catering, event planning, front-of-house, and food safety. This is your chance to learn the skills you need to land your first job or get promoted to a higher-level position in the food safety industry. Help is available for students who need financial assistance or childcare.

This comprehensive workforce development program is designed to equip participants with the essential skills, industry-recognized certifications, and practical experience necessary to excel in the dynamic fields of hospitality and tourism. Through a structured curriculum and hands-on training, students will gain technical expertise, professional skills, and the confidence to thrive in these industries.

Upon successful completion of this program, trainees will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a variety of practical skills required for entry-level positions in the Food Safety and processing manufacturing industry
  • Obtain basic training and certifications that increase hiring qualifications
  • Gain basic skills needed to be employed as Occupational Health and Safety Specialists, Food safety Auditor, Quality Assurance Manager,Production Supervisor, Plant manager, Food Safety Compliance assistant, Packaging operator. Food Production, Line worker, Quality Control technician.
